I know what I’m signing
29 october 2025
On 28 October 2025, representatives of the Regional Office of the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) in Szczecin — Regional Director Wojciech Rymer and employees of the Consumer Affairs Department: Jacek Jarocki, Adrianna Wesołowska, Anna Gottfried-Stankiewicz and Andrzej Żukowski — took part in a public debate titled “The Safety of Seniors Is Everyone’s Responsibility”, organized by the Municipal Police Headquarters in Szczecin. The event was held at the “Słowianin” Cultural Centre on Korzeniowskiego 7 in Szczecin.
The purpose of the meeting was to draw the attention of older adults and those around them to the threats they may face, particularly fraud, violence and crisis situations. During the debate, participants discussed ways to prevent these risks and presented the activities undertaken by public institutions to enhance senior safety.
The event brought together representatives of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Szczecin, municipal institutions and services, as well as organizations supporting older people. The UKE Regional Office in Szczecin was invited as a partner institution whose work includes protecting consumers in the telecommunications and postal services market.
During the meeting, Wojciech Rymer, Director of the UKE Regional Office in Szczecin, spoke as an expert and addressed the most common telecommunications frauds, such as fake SMS messages, calls from unknown numbers and attempts to obtain personal data. He also presented the principles of safe use of telecommunications services and informed participants about the support and assistance available from UKE in cases of suspected abuse or unfair practices.
The event served an informational and educational purpose and encouraged direct exchange of experiences with participants. We would like to thank the Municipal Police Headquarters in Szczecin for inviting us to co-create this important initiative. Participation in such events allows us to effectively reach groups particularly vulnerable to fraud and helps strengthen consumer awareness regarding the safe use of telecommunications services.
