The 4th IV Consumer Knowledge Olympiad in Legnica

On 9 June, the 4th Consumer Knowledge Olympiad took place in Legnica. It was not merely a traditional knowledge test, but above all a comprehensive and modern educational event designed to prepare young people for the challenges of the modern market. Participants had the opportunity to attend lectures delivered by leading national experts representing institutions dedicated to safeguarding the interests of us all as consumers:

  • Office of Electronic Communications,
  • Office for Competition and Consumer Protection,
  • European Consumer Centre Poland,
  • LexCultura Foundation.

Each of the invited speakers addressed key issues relating to consumer rights in their presentations, teaching young people how to make informed decisions, understand market mechanisms and effectively avoid unfair practices. The common thread running through all the talks was a focus on building social resilience and making high school students aware that, despite their young age, they are fully-fledged and active consumers who enter into contracts every day, for example when shopping online.

Representatives of the Office of Electronic Communications Agnieszka Osełka and Małgorzata Tymińska, focused on explaining to young people the fundamental changes resulting from the Electronic Communications Act. In an era of widespread digitalisation, where mobile phones and the internet are essential tools for students, the discussion of the Electronic Communications Act had a highly practical dimension. The young people learnt:

  • How the new regulations effectively enhance the protection of users of electronic communications services.
  • Why it is worth knowing your rights when dealing with major operators.

Thanks to this meeting, the participants of the Olympiad left not only with certificates, but above all, with specific legal knowledge that makes them safer in the digital world.

2nd place – 1st High School

3rd place – Technical School Complex in Legnica
