The Human at the Center of the Digital Revolution: Summary of the 2026 Digital Technology and Media Forum
19 january 2026
On January 15-16, 2026, the University of Warsaw hosted the Digital Technology and Media Forum 2026, organized jointly by the UW Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies and AFA Media. The event provided an opportunity for scientists, business representatives, and public administration officials to exchange experiences.
This year’s edition placed the human being at the center of attention. In an era of omnipresent algorithmization and automation, Forum participants sought answers to a crucial question: how to build security, competence, and trust in a world where technology seems to outpace social reflection.
The event program was built around four pillars: the development of Artificial Intelligence, the progressive digitization of services, modern mobile marketing, and the critical importance of cybersecurity. By combining academic perspectives with business practice, participants were able to explore not only theoretical models of development but, above all, specific case studies.
One of the most emotional points of the program was the panel dedicated to hate speech. Experts emphasized that hate is no longer a marginal problem of niche forums but has become a real threat to public debate and the mental health of citizens. Discussions focused on how the law should protect individuals online. Panelists agreed that while the line between freedom of speech and hate speech is theoretically defined, it often becomes blurred in digital practice. A key conclusion from this session was the need to accelerate work on regulations that keep pace with the dynamics of digital communication, while simultaneously emphasizing media education as a tool for building a culture of respect.
AI, Automation, and Data: New Challenges for Cybersecurity
Milena Górecka, Head of the Consumer Policy Department, led an inspiring panel on the role of Artificial Intelligence and automation in the context of cybersecurity. This panel, gathering leading market experts, focused on the AI paradox: this technology is simultaneously a source of new, automated threats and a tool to combat them.
Participants in the discussion included:
- Dawid Sobieraj – CTO, AFA MEDIA GROUP;
- dr Paweł Blajer – Programming Director, BIZNES24;
- Maciej Kossowski – President of the Association of Digital Publishers Employers (representing, among others, Grupa WP, RASP, Interia, Agora, and TVN Warner Bros. Discovery);
- Marcin Grabarczyk – Director of the Technology Transfer and Business Development Division at NASK;
- Tomasz Misiak – Member of the Council of Employers of the Republic of Poland, founder of Mizyak Investment Fund LTD;
- Dariusz Korecki – Vice President of the Management Board, Synektik SA.
During the Forum, the report "Mobile Marketing through the Eyes of Seniors", prepared by the National Institute of Senior Economy (KIGS), had its premiere. This publication analyzes the digital behavior of the oldest groups of users, who are becoming increasingly proficient in the world of mobile applications and services. Expert commentary on the report was provided by Head Milena Górecka. The report is available at: [Mobile Marketing through the Eyes of Seniors - KIGS].
The Digital Technology and Media Forum 2026 demonstrated that although technology brings previously unknown challenges, through the cooperation of science, business, and administration, we are able to shape the digital future in a responsible and safe manner.
