World Amateur Radio Day

On 18 April 2026, we once again celebrated World Amateur Radio Day. To mark the occasion, on 17 April Andrzej Kaczor, Artur Michalczuk and Anna Ligęska-Korol hosted members of the 82nd Lublin Senior Scout Troop “Invictus” and the 8th Lublin Rover Scout Troop “Infinity” of the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association at the UKE Branch Office in Lublin.
Participants learned what amateur radio is and how to become a licensed amateur radio operator. They were introduced to Q codes, amateur radio jargon and the Morse code alphabet. Using SDR receivers, they listened to activity on the HF bands and explored the radio spectrum with the help of specialised spectrum analysis equipment. They also learned why numerous radio transmitters can operate simultaneously without interfering with one another.
The visitors were also shown how radio modulation works and how it enables voice communication between amateur radio transceivers.
We also discussed online safety and the risks associated with the internet and social media, because safety always comes first.
The meeting was an excellent opportunity to promote amateur radio among young people. We would like to thank the Invictus and Infinity Scout Troops for their active participation.
